Lembeh Strait: Unexpected Day Six

There seems to never be a dull day here. We actually saved a man from drowning in the Lembeh Strait after our first dive!

So we were on our boat ride back to the resort after our first morning dive when the driver suddenly slowed down. The spotter had seen something. When I looked to the water in front of the boat, there was a man waving around what looks to be yellow cloth.

The man only had a pair of shorts on and was floating with the help of a styrofoam buoy. We took him aboard. He looked extremely exhausted. He had been stranded for so long that he was seasick from the choppy water and kept vomiting nothing. I kid you not when I say he would have drowned if nobody found him within the next few minutes. Even the two nurses diving with us agreed. Rhonda, a cardiac nurse, checked him and said his vitals were strong. We wrapped him in a bunch of dry towels and took him home (he pointed to the village on Lembeh Island where he lives). Turns out his boat had sunk.

It's quite humbling to realize how brutal nature can be and how she can never be tamed. But I love her all the same. :)

Good deed of the day done, let's look at some pictures!

Another surprisingly decent picture of a pygmy seahorse.
I really didn't think I would get this one.

Pink, tiny crab on a pink coral tree.

I got this one, too!
Although it is quite blurry.

Small, yellow frogfish.

Two fat nudibranches.

A small, bumpy nudibranch.

A spotted blue nudibranch.

Super tiny nudibranch.
If you can't tell by now, I gotta tell ya, I like them nudibranches. ;)

Two angry ribbon eels at the mouth of their shared home.
The blue one is especially pissed.

Yet another nudibranch.
This one under a big spiral coral so I was in a weird angle trying to take a picture of it.
A green nudibranch.

This hard-to-spot shrimp.

Pink-spotted frogfish.
He's definitely turning yellowish brown.

This mind blowing flatworm.
Oh, and I also got a flatworm swimming on video. It's pretty cool, you'll want to see it. :D

I don't actually know what this thing is, but it's definitely donning a leopard print. :)

One agitated puffer fish, but if you look closely he has two hearts on his back!

One badass looking fish.

A cute little box fish that is very camera shy.

And say hello to Mr. Hermit Crab, munching away at the ocean floor.
That's the main adventure for today. I also saw a couple of other tiny crabs but couldn't get a good picture of them. Underwater photography is like an art in itself! Especially when you're taking pictures of a not so willing crowd like sea critters. But it's definitely fun!
